For the ultimate in finesse and sensitivity, you just can't beat the pepper range. I have to admit that i baulked at the price tag and struggled to see what all the extra cash got you. I bought the Akoya Pearl 3-12g version specifically for perch. It took an in-store demonstration with Dave at PT to really show me the difference.
In practice, this rod really does live up to its price tag. It casts so sweetly, and the feedback is immense; I swear you can feel the fish looking at the bait. It takes a little while to calm down your senses, as you do end up striking at everything. Once you have gotten used to it, then it is an absolute pleasure to use.
I paired this rod with the superbly light Shimano Vanquish; together, you barely know you are holding them, such is the balance and weight of them. If I had one gripe, it is the aesthetics. I would prefer the rod to be a different colour or for options to be available. If you are interested and, like me, are reticent, then go find a stockist and try one out in store.
